Cornwall - Chic & Stylish Linkup.

Hi there everyone.
Hope you’re all okay.

This has been a while coming and I’m pleased to share my three nights stay in Cornwall with you.

You might have seen me mention I went away to Cornwall back in May and have finally got this post together so I can tell you about it.

We left on a Wednesday morning and travelled down to Cornwall on a fairly clear motorway, but once we got to Stonehenge traffic got quite clogged up. The road goes from duel carriage way to single lane and back to duel numerous times - which makes the journey very hard going. Services on the M3 are fair but I reckon there could be more! We arrived mid afternoon after having a coffee stop just over half way when we had a wrap as well.  Once we arrived at Pencubitt House we were directed to our rooms and sat down for a cup of tea with a nice cold glass of Prosecco!  We've stayed here numerous times and feel right at home there, in fact David and I had the same room when we went to collect a table back in 2015.  Yes we drove down to my uncles, collected a table that my grandfather had made, went and found the hotel, had a delicious meal in Looe, stayed in the hotel overnight and after having a lovely breakfast drove home!! Yes all that way for one night!
Julie and Patrick are brilliant hosts and nothing is too much trouble!  It's what I call chintzy hotel with swags and tails and a mix of jacquard fabrics and lots of ornaments and photos - lots of which they have collected over their travels. Last year they introduced a new sitting room which has a tea and coffee station befitting the interior - it's set upon a big dresser with a little fridge hidden in a cupboard and even has a tin of biscuits too.  Julie aptly named it the Pencuban continuing with their countries-visited vibe .

Arrival Day.
We'd decided to have some drinks and a salad in the room which we had on the balcony which was in my room, we sat among the house martin's that were swooping and diving into their little nests which were made of mud.  We tried not to worry them and sat well away from their nests.  Once finished we headed down to the sitting room - plotting ourselves down in our usual place which is surrounded by lots of interesting books. These were all very interesting, for example The top 50 films, and famous walking trails of the world.  I can imagine visiting for a week and staying just at the hotel to devour all the fabulous books they had.  The bar is fully stocked and they have a bell to ring for service, which we did on many occasions I must admit!  Background music is played all day, the likes of Eva Cassidy echoed at just the right level.  It's such a calm environment I can't wait to go back.

Day One.
My uncle was visiting us at the hotel and after a late, heavy night (I blame the driving!) 😂  Judi and I decided to walk into the town of Liskeard.  We happened upon a few charity shops and came out with a few bits between us - I found a fab pair of trousers and she found a top and a pair of BNWT sandals!  We also popped into a few other shops before heading back.  We sat and chatted and had more tea before my uncle went home and we enjoyed more of the fantastic gardens. Eventually we all headed upstairs to get ready to go to my uncles for dinner, who lives near Lostwithiel, the taxi picked us up and before long we were enjoying drinks in their garden before having a lovely three course meal complete with wine (no Prosecco for me as I'd had too much the night before)! The taxi promptly picked us up for the return journey at 10, so back home for an early-ish night!

Day Two.
After dropping mum off to my uncles again, Judi and I headed off to Charlestown.  We've visited a few other villages on previous trips including the aforementioned Looe, Polperro, Fowey & Lostwithiel which were all quaint and pretty and really interesting. There's not that much to see in Charlestown and some of the beach was blocked off due to work being undertaken, so we strolled around the harbour - this has been featured in a few TV programes including Poldark, Taboo and apparantely some of Harry Potter was filmed there!!! We had a nice little pit stop in a sheltered spot out of the wind and enjoyed strawberries, chocolate and clotted cream - with the obvious glass of champagne too. Would you expect anything else from me? 😁. After a couple of hours pottering around the shops and taking a few photos & videos, we returned to get mum and get back to the hotel for dinner there. My uncle and his partner also joined us and we had a lovely relaxed meal there as we were the only guests staying at the hotel!

Day Three.
Time to go home. We had another wonderful breakfast and I had my usual (are you a creature of habit) poached eggs on granary break (keto slipped over these few days) boosted by a bowl of fruit, Greek yoghurt and a handful of  granola, washed down by a pot of tea and juice. Now isn’t that one of the best things about staying at a hotel - the indulgent breakfasts! After saying our “good byes”
We started on our journey home. Judi and I shared the driving with her in control on the A roads and me taking over on the motorway. It was a long journey home but it’s always nice to get back to normality and your own bed, although as you would imagine the beds at Pencubitt are divine!

I can’t wait to go back again and hope to maybe visit The Eden Project next time - anyone been?
Do ask any questions if you’re ever thinking of heading down to the South Wear coast, I’d love to help you have the best holiday.
