How’s your week been?
I’ve had a wonderful weekend. Saturday evening I was at a wedding reception. Imagine how excited I was to find out it was a black tie event which as you well know means wearing a long evening dress! I’ve only worn an evening dress on a handful of occasions and I couldn’t wait to get ready for it. I’d bought a couple of dresses from a company called Goddiva and when they both arrived I couldn’t decided as I liked them both. I kept them just in case I need another for a suitable event, but who knows when that’ll be! They both looked great in and fitted like a glove although this one was a bit too long so had to be taken up! I didn’t do a bad job and revelled at how good it ended up.
This is the drop should fitted maxi I worn, but today’s post is really all about me and my co-partners for the Style not Age challenge which fell into my hands. I opted for a typical Summertime prompt of Festival Fashion purely because we’re in the height of summer festivals having just had Glastonbury and IOW gatherings with many more coming up including Edinburgh Fringe and the Leeds/Reading events.
What would you wear to a festival? For me I don’t go to many and it would depend on various factors including weather, time of day, what music genres are being featured etc.
The one I first went to back in 1996, blimey that’s years ago, was the V Festival at Hylands Park. It was a weekend event like most are but I only went for the day as I had the kids at home. I wore denim shorts and a little tee shirt. I took a jacket with me and quite honestly can’t remember if I wore trainers or sandals! I remember drinking Mad Dog from a tout who was wandering around the audience selling them in the evening and dancing to Paul Weller and getting excited when he bought Noel Gallagher on at the end! Funny the things you remember and I’m chuffed that I’ve actually seen one of the Gallagher brothers, albeit from a distance! 😂
Anyway here’s what I would choose if I was going now.
I had a bit of help from Sophie and we made the whole outfit work from pieces in my wardrobe.
The white cotton skirt is a voluminous version that’s full of interesting details. It’s got a flatting half elastic waistband, I mean who wants to be feeling tight and uncomfortable at a festival. It’s all about feeling happy and looking at home. The big pockets are again not only noticeable but functional too, pockets for essentials, tissues, lip balm, a phone not forgetting my hands. I love to shove my hands in big pockets don’t you?
If I’d have put a bit more thought into my outfit for sure I’d have purchased cowboy boots (see below) and a tassel waistcoat, but both would have been a frivolous purchase as I’m not actually going to any festivals this year, but I’ll keep an eye open just incase I see anything for the future!
So shopping my wardrobe I gathered up my crochet top which came from F&F a year or so ago along with the boots (you might have seen already, the belt which like the round bag was a Christmas gift). I’ve got quite a few scarfs even though I sorted them earlier this year (dropped at a charity shop) & I tied this one around my neck cowboy style and popped this striking necklace over the top too.
Do you like to have a play around with your clothes and marvel at the new looks you might find?
You’ve gotta love any sort of cowboy boot and as I mentioned above I didn’t think buying a pair just for the challenge was worth it. I will be looking out for some though, but they’ve got to be just what I want so these ankle boots were a brilliant ‘stand in’ - what do you think of these sand coloured zip up booties? They’ve got all the traditional additions except the Cuban heel, however they are very comfortable and look so good with jeans as well & I’m really happy with my choice.
This boho necklace came attached to a white top, which I wasn’t keen on but really like the design with this outfit. Sometimes we need to change things around and match different pieces together. Do you like to have a play around with your clothes and marvel at the new looks you might find?
So now you’ve seen my outfit, so let me know what you think, let’s entertain you with my three friends choices.
First to the post is Anna - Anna’s Island Style. Her unique style shines through in this bold and colourful outfit comprising of lilac frilly shirt and floral trousers, you’re just ready and waiting for the festival to arrive.
Next up it’s Emma. She’s picked sequins with a denim jacket statement sunglasses and comfortable trainers. Find out all the details on her blog Style Splash.
Finally here’s what Hilda - Over the Hilda picked. Shopping her wardrobe for the casual and comfortable look with an oversized striped shirt and jeans it’s a winner in my eyes too.
Many thanks for joining me today. I’ll be excited to hear what you think of my outfit and let me know whether or not you’re a festival go-er!
Catch you on Thursday for the linkup and then on the following Monday for July’s Review - yes August is literally round the corner.
Bye for now. X
