Another week that’s flown by! How on earth did that happen?
I can’t believe the wedding has been and gone - it’s over a week ago already! I’m getting the house back in order and have been sorting lots out. Sophie is away for a couple of weeks more - so I’ll be more able to get everything in the right place when she gets back.
I know I need to address the wedding photos, but until Sophie gets back I don’t actually know what photos have been taken - I’ll be.a nice surprise when she does. We’ve also got a camcorder, that’ll be interesting to see what’s been taken on it. Maybe one for Instagram!!
Last weekend I’d booked for David and I to go wine tasting at Chartham Vineyard situated just outside Canterbury. It was a birthday gift for him and what a lovely afternoon we had!
Having been stumped as to what to buy David for his birthday gift - so I decided to booked a wine tasting trip. I didn’t want to travel to far away, and as Chartham isn’t far I opted for the 2 hour tour around Chartham Vineyard with a tasting session as well and it was only about 1/2 car journey from me. My youngest son James dropped us at the local pub called The Artichoke, we only had time for one drink in the quaint old pub before walking to the venue down the road.
Fortunately at the last minute I packed flats as I wondered if it would be up hill. It was and I was so pleased I did. I still like the look in my flats dolly shoes do you?
Andy, the owner/tour guide was very informative and told us all about the start of their journey - do you know it takes 4 years to establish a vine? They grow black and white grapes along with a beautiful golden burgundy colour which eventually produce eight different wines. It’s all to do with the methods they use, not as basic as just squashing grapes. They have volunteers who harvest the grapes and because we’ve had such good hot weather recently they’ve harvested one section two weeks early.
After the tour had finished we assembled in the barn, it was laid out with various tables and chairs with two glasses each. We then sampled five different varieties, three of which were sparkling - my favourite was the blanc de noir and we had to bring a bottle home with us.
David’s favourite is a red, but it was fully sold out. That was a shame as we’d have loved to try that one. Maybe a reason to return next year eh?
It was interesting to learn the soil the vines grow on lay on a chalk and flint base which goes down and across the channel re-appearing in the Rheims area of France - yes where Champagne is made. So you can imagine with the weather in the uk becoming more like European weather we are getting the perfect combination to make wine!
The farmyard setting features 18th century buildings where wine can be purchased along with art work and a jewellery shop. They open every Saturday through the year, except January, between 10.30 - 5.00pm so you don’t have to do a wine tour to buy anything.
I’d decided on a dress and felt this polka dot dress was perfect. You can find all details about this pretty floaty midi over on Izabel London’s website. It’s fit is spot on and does up with a side zip and top button. I love that it’s got a fitted waist and a line style skirt. The larger short sleeves are helpful for the cooler weather Autumn brings too. I added espadrille sandals which have a tie around the ankle, and I took my gold dolly shoes to change into. Everything fitted nicely into my Sara Haran bag too! All in all the best dress for the occasion.
