How you been?

Mid way in the month and hasn’t the weather noticeably changed! I’ve been wearing my jeans over the weekend, albeit with sandals and tee shirts but nonetheless the definitely Autumnal clothing. I’ve even put the duvet back on the bed. It’s nice to feel cosy and warm although I did have to pull my legs out occasionally in the night when I got too hot!

I had the pleasure of attending an event in London last Wednesday. The wonderful Laura Geller was celebrating a new opening in Boots, TicTok shop and a cute pop up in Covent garden over the weekend and she’d invited a few ladies to share the news. Her makeup is making big waves in the industry and I’ve been loving learning all about the baked foundations, blushers and eyeshadows. 
I made my way up to central London via train and tube and was chuffed to have gotten there without any hitches. As I’ve gotten older doing basic things like visiting London on my own has become a challenge, but I try to push myself out my comfort zone every so often to prove to myself I can do it! Who else feels like that?

Did you spot Michelle - Fifty and Fab in the piccy above? I was chuffed to see Michelle walk through the door, especially when I was having imposter syndrome with all the amazing ladies who were there. Many of whom I love following and seeing where they are  and watching they are doing. I had to pinch myself frequently throughout the evening. I also ran into a few ladies who are also on Instagram. They were as elegant and chic as I’d imagined and were just as nice in real life. Isn’t it weird meeting icons of social media who in reality are just normal people and feel just like I do! Have you met any of your peers and how did it make you feel?

So what did I wear? I often start from the feet up. I want to know I’ll be comfortable so always look to what footwear would be the best option. I’d looked at a few different dresses but soon really the footwear options would be dubious. So the Vivaia slingbacks felt like a good choice. They have a reasonable heel height and are a supportive sturdy shoe, and being a pretty shade of pink felt like a really good choice. Now upon looking through my dresses (I love to wear a dress) I found the perfect option. This lightweight maxi matched the slingbacks beautifully, and although I had long sleeves the lighter fabric felt cool. I searched my bags and having decided to take a pair of flats with me settled on a bigger tote bag which would fit the flats in without too much trouble. 

So that’s my outfit sorted. Let me tell you about the evening. 

It was held at The Coral Room which is located in The Bloomsbury Hotel in Great Russel Street. I arrived just after five and found the venue packed with elegant ladies chatting and drinking in the beautifully furnished room. I can understand why it’s called the coral room as it’s decorated in a delightful coral orange complete with stunning chandeliers, ornate mirrors and sumptuous sofas. I spotted a friendly face amongst other ladies I recognised from the squares, so jumped in with two feet introducing myself to everyone I met. I asked questions and forwarded answers and before long felt quite at ease. This was made even easier when Michelle stepped into the room. 

Laura Geller focus on makeup for the mature skin. I’m thrilled to be trialing this product, having used their foundation and blusher in the past I’ve been eager to use their mascara, eyeshadows, lipstick and eyeliner. The liner is amazing and I’m loving using it already. I’ve got a pretty burgundy shade that really compliments my hazel eyes and it lasts all day! The baked foundation makes beautiful skin easy. It’s colour correcting formula balances redness, discolouration and uneven tone, has a buildable coverage that looks like skin feels weightless when applied and won’t collect in the creases and lasts 24 hours plus! I’m itching to start seeing results with these products, and will keep you informed as to how it goes. 

Along with complimentary drinks there was a delicious buffet which included ox cheeks with mash potatoes, sea bass with little cherry tomatoes and a fancy ravioli pasta dish. This was followed by a wonderful selection of desserts and pastries. I had a couple of little pastries which were delicious. There was also an opportunity to have a personalised Kabuki brush - I’m impressed with this versatile brush as it can be twisted higher or lower creating different thickness meaning different applications can be made. It can also be twisted down and hidden with a cap making it suitable for your handbag and makeup bag without leaving any residue inside! Brilliant! Finally Olivia, a poetess was there capturing a personal poem after asking a couple of questions, here’s an example of mine. 

The night ended just after 8 pm and I made my way back to the tube with Michelle before saying our goodbyes and parting to travel on our return journeys. The trip home seemed to go quicker and before long I was home and in bed reliving the afternoon. It’s not often I get to go to London but it certainly was a wonderful afternoon.  I’m looking forward to getting to grips with the makeup and using all the products I was kindly gifted.
