How are you?
I’ve had such a busy few weeks and haven’t had time to blog which is sad for me. Family life has been choc-a-block so making time to partake in my favourite hobby has been truly difficult. Anyway how’s your past weeks been? Have you checked out the new fashions, or maybe tried a new hobby or recipe? Do let me know and join the linkup below.
Let me tell you about my last couple of weeks. I’ve been enjoying two birthday presents from David. Firstly he surprised me with a night at Canterbury Cathedral. He’d booked the classical music event which was set in an Illuminated Canterbury Cathedral and was incredible.
It featured the legendary Hans Zimmer and John Williams, whose famous musical scores were presented in an illuminated cathedral & was stunning. You may be aware that they both have composed some amazing soundtracks and musical scores for various films and have received accolades and awards for their outstanding work. Our evening in the cathedral, which was preceded by a meal in The Ivy, was fantastic. It really was an enchanting evening that had me entranced from the moment I walked into the fabulous setting.
The week after the concert I was whisked away to Valmorel in the French Alps. David had booked a long weekend skiing for us. It’s my favourite pastime and I can honestly say I’d prefer a winter ski holiday to a summer break anytime. We’d stayed in the little French resort twice before and you can read about both trips here and here.
Our journey started on Thursday morning, early I have to add! We took the Euro Tunnel and headed down to the Alps for the 8 hour journey. My youngest son came with us too and loved the whole weekend just as much as we did. The little village has various restaurants right next to the hotel so it was easy to get tables booked each evening. The Hotel Du Bourg also has a cosy little bar which has a wonderful atmosphere and friendly staff - the huge open fireplace was a crowd pleaser especially for David and my son who took it in turns to tender the fire at every opportunity.
When we couldn’t get ‘fireside’ seats they weren’t impressed and ended up commenting on anyone who had the seats & let it go out! David & James took it in turns to prod and poke the logs, replacing new ones when they felt it was needed! There’s something about an open fire that’s so appealing, just staring at it flicking flames takes me to my happy place. 🔥
We ate in a different restaurant every night and had delicious meals in typical tradition settings complete with wooden surroundings and alpine memorabilia. How on earth did they ski on those wooden skies or walk in those clogs!!!
Ski trips are never about the fashion for me, but more about enjoying the quiet, stillness on the slopes where I can reconnect with myself in the open air which is fresh and grounding. I push myself to the limits when covering the snow, it really does make me feel alive. I’d throughly recommend trying this as a holiday, you never know you might fall in love just like I have.
