How’s your week going?
Hasn’t the weather been atrocious? I got soaked on the school run on Monday afternoon. When I left home it was clear weather so I put this outfit on. I must have had a sixth sense as I decided to change before the school run and put some trousers on with my chunky boots and padded jacket! But to my horror I hadn’t thought enough as by the time I’d arrived at school and got out the car the skies had darkened and the rain was tipping it down! I had an umbrella but the wind made keeping it in place almost impossible, so you can imagine I got soaked!
Anyway I thought I’d show you how well this outfit turned out once I’d played around with a few pieces. I wanted to make my new maxi dress wearable in the Winter and reckon I achieved my goal, what do you think?
I’ve been affiliated with Izabel London for a while now and have been sharing my love for their dresses with you over the past months. See these gorgeous dresses I wore on my recent trip to Sicily back in October here.
Items marked with a * have been gifted to me, however these are 100% my own honest comments.
Wearing dresses is so my thing, but realistically, with our climate in the UK it’s sometimes hard to have the right weather system to wear them. When it’s cold and wet I prefer to have warmer items on that won’t get all soggy and wet! However when it’s just cold and not wet it’s good to wear a dress and here’s how to make it suitable for the cold temperatures.
Today’s pretty maxi is a glorious wine shade * that’s got a tiered effect which is a sheer fabric and is embossed with a floral pattern over it. It’s also got pockets much like this dress and this one which are both from Izabel too.
I immediately added boots to the ensemble. That’s a sure fire way to make something suitable for winter. You can add either tights or leggings to the equation without either being noticed. A great way to keep warm.
These flat boots are knee high and have a variable buckle detail that means you can make them wider or narrower depending on your calf width. You can find all the prices and details of these leather & textile boots, which are called Bamburgh*, on the Hotter website here.
You can also add thin jumper underneath as well as covering up with a chunky jumper over the top like I’ve done here. I’ve gone down the tonal route and although they’re colours from a different palette, still work really nicely together. This was a lovely and warm combination and I even had room for the faux suede jacket over the top and could still add a padded jacket over the top to keep me ultra warm as well.
My final additions are my circular Ted Baker bag which is tan leather and has round tortoise shell handles. This was a Christmas present a few years ago and comes out every once in a while. Checkout this beauty that is similar to mine.
I’ve not worn this necklace for many months as my gold chains have taken priority, but it was nice to pop this leather and gold hardware choker on. It worked well with the tan accents so made a nice change. You can find similar styles here.

That is such a beautiful colour. And I love dresses and boots. Fabulous.
ReplyDeleteHi Jacquie and thanks so much for featuring me! What a surprise! I do find it hard to wear dresses in the winter time, as although you can warm up the top half with a jumper the lower half is still too thin. I am more a skirt person but even with skirts finding a warm winter skirt these days is so hard. Wool skirts seem to have just disappeared from the High Street. But I have found a few outfits - but doing blog next week, so see you on the link-up then. But thanks so much for hosting. Penny at https://www.conversationswithanolderwoman.co.uk
