Drinks at The Old Neptune.

Hi there, how are you?

I've been feeling really tired over the past few days.  With my busy weekend away being the foundation the rest of my week and weekend have compounded it - I've had nights out, late nights and hectic days trying to get all my Christmas shopping done (I've still not finished 😧).  It's the same every year, but this one feels particularly harder!
Anyway let's brush over that and move onto more interesting matters.  I had a lovely afternoon out yesterday celebrating a friends birthday.  Drinks in a local pub on the beach was the order of the day, and as always, I had brilliant fun with them.
As it's so chilly I decided to go with trousers and boots and what better time to wear my stunning new blouse from Izabel London.

Items marked with * have been gifted to me, however these are 100% my own honest comments.

If you're familiar with Whitstable you may have already heard about The Old Neptune but for those who haven't here's a little history about it.

Like much of Whitstable beach, the site of the Old Neptune was probably originally occupied by a boatyard workshop.  Placed on the edge of the beach in the teeth of estuary storms and gales, the original building has long been washed away.

In 1853 the 'Old Neptune' beer house suffered serious structural damage when an exceptionally high tide combined with a northerly gale washed away her foundations.  Another great storm in 1883 resulted in the wrecking of several vessels awaiting repair along the shore.  The Neptune, although spared this time, was used as a temporary morgue to receive the bodies of those killed in the storm.

Finally in 1897 the old wooden building was completely washed away in another great storm.  The 'Old Neptune' was rebuilt, using timber reclaimed from the original structure and several other cottages that had also been destroyed. The Building has warped and twisted over the years owing to its old wooden foundations, however the timber structure seems to accommodate this movement as can be seen in the window frames, the sloping floor and the counter top.

The pub has many wonderful photographs charting the pub's history and many equally knowledgeable locals who are happy to share their bit of The Old Neptune story.

The 'Neppy' as locals often refer to it also offers traditional British pub food such as fish and chips, burgers and chips and Pies with mash they also serve BBQ on the beach in Summer when the sunset's we have in Whitstable can be every bit as good as some seen in Ibiza!
Whilst enjoying food and drink live music can also be enjoyed too!

Quoting again from their website:

Our bands cover every musical genre from blues, rock 'n' roll and soul so there is bound to be something for everyone's taste.  Music nights see the pub packed to the rafters with everyone having a great time amid a lively atmosphere.  When the bands aren't playing there's the pubs infamous jukebox packed with the great, the good, the classics and everything in between - so you're bound to find a few old favourites!

Ok, lets talk about my outfit now.
You saw the new trousers last week when I shared my post about Baden Baden.  I picked them up in Tu at Sainsburys whilst doing some shopping, who else pops a cheeky bargain into the shopping trolley ... just me?

This style is both comfortable and flattering.  It has a straight leg and has typical five pockets, belt loops (always helpful) and zip & button fly.  They feel great on, very smooth on the inside and look chic and sophisticated on the outside, definitely ones to get noticed in. Icing on the cake with these is that they are now reduced to just under £17, now that is a bargain don't you think!
I chose to wear heels as I think they look better with trousers, but I'm sure I'll team them with trainers for a more relaxed outfit, ankle boots will work well too.

Now step forward my delicious top.  I've been kindly gifted this from Izabel London and have to admit it looks even better in real life, the website certainly doesn't do it justice.
It's a plisse pleated style* and hangs beautifully, with a soft drape and glamorous feel.  Animal prints play a bit part in my wardrobe and I'm pleased to welcome this stunner.

The stand up collar is really flattering as is the big tie at the neck.  This could be left to hang or tied in a bow depending on how you feel and what else you're wearing. It also has voluminous bell sleeves that have elastic on the cuff, another helpful detail.  Priced at £35 and available in sizes 8 - 18, it comes up true to size so I'd happily recommend you buy your normal size.

It's going to compliment my faux leather skirt, wide leg trousers and jeans & I love the versatility of this elegant shirt, it might be one for Christmas day too!

Good to have you join me here today, many thanks.
I'll see you on Thursday for another #LINKUP.
Bye for now. X

  1. One of my favorite things to do when we visit the UK is to go to the pubs! The first time I saw a dog in one I was shocked...you just didn't see that in the US back then! And, the food is good, too! This pub looks like so much fun with the juke box (is that what you call it, too) and the bar!

Your outfit is amazing! You look fabulous in these colors, Jacqui! I do love those pleats and the stand up collar, too!

  5. I really like the fit of those trousers! The Old Neptune reminds me of one of the restaurant we eat at by the gulf. It makes me want to make sure we plan a vacation by the beach again this year.
