Punting on the River Stour - #Chicandstylish #LINKUP

Hi there.
How are you all today?

How time flies when you're having fun!  I celebrated my 37th wedding anniversary yesterday, and it seems only yesterday we were two naive twenty-year-old's.  Look at us now, five kids, 7 grand-kids, numerous houses, plenty of holidays, cars and good times it's been an absolute ball so far - and it's still going!
We didn't go out for dinner as we couldn't get a reservation - the restaurant is up for sale and we're not sure if they are still open, so decided to have dinner sent in by way of an Indian curry.  to be honest I'dd been out in the day celebrating a friends birthday and David had been hard at work so we were both happy to stay in and celebrate at home.

I've lived in Canterbury area since I was 11, and as you can imagine living in such a historic city there's plenty to see.  I've visited Canterbury Cathedral twice, both times when you didn't have to pay! There's also the Roman pavement, Beaney House of Art and Knowledge, The Marlowe Theatre and The Kent Museum of Freemasonary to name a few.  The only other one I visited was the Roman Pavement, when I accompanied my youngest on a school trip.  Well I can add one more to my list after my visit yesterday to go punting on the Stour!

I was not gifted this tour, and my comments are my own!

My afternoon outing yesterday was with three friends who I went to Abu Dhabi with a few years ago.  We try to meet up every so often and for the past year have been celebrating birthdays together which was why I went on the boating trip on the river.

I thought this pretty lime green buffet dress would be just right for a trip on the Stour and strangely this was the second time I wore this M & S beauty - the first being last year on my wedding anniversary for dinner at Reads, the aforementioned restaurant that didn't have a reservation for us this year .. 😞)

Here's the entrance to the little restaurant on the waters edge, such a pretty little lane that's typically English with hanging baskets, outside tables with a bridge over the river.  We were delighted with our first impressions.

A room with a view.  The cafe reserved this table which over looked the water and was nice a cool with a fresh breeze.  It was also a lovely position to watch the rain, happy we weren't still on the boat, unlike many of the customers - rain didn't stop play for them & they all got rather wet!

Getting into the punt was rather precarious, it wobbled and bobbed as we got on .. fortunately we all managed to get on and sit down in one piece - no one fell in ... ha ha!

Can you spot Canterbury Cathedral in the distance, nice to see it without any scaffolding (I think there was some, but we couldn't see it).  It's like the forth bridge - always needing some work on the stone and there's an army of stonemasons ready and waiting!

After our 45 minute trip we returned for our afternoon tea which included a jug of pimm's that we took on the boat. We arrived back just in time to miss the torrential rain that fell, how rude to interrupt our special trip.

Here's our fabulous setting, we ate crumpets with marmite - try it you might like it my friends.  There were two cakes, an almond slice and a piece of flapjack followed by a yummy scone with cream and jam.  We also had little pots of tea and another cheeky jug of pimm's - such a teat and my first of the year!

  10. Jacqui, I don't even know where to begin. Okay, let's start with your lovely dress and congratulations on your anniversary. This is so special.

Moving on to your bangs and those shades. Divine!!! Looking very chic. Real fashionista.

ANd your post makes me want to get up, hop on the the next plane and visit Canterbury right away. It looks marvellous. But then, I love everything English being an English major :)

I only visited Edinburgh a couple of times (not English, I know :)), London (go figure) and the Dorest area where I was staying as an exchange student at 16.

Looking at that fantastic cathedral made me wonder if there are ever any special events taking place. You only get to see London's cathedrals which is a pity considering there are so many beautiful ones all over the country.

And there is a special place in my heart for Canterbury having to translate the Canterbury Tales as a student. I loved it.

So that is not it for today but I don't want to spam your comment section here.
