Styling a Shirt Dress from Bonmarche.

Morning my friends.
How are you all getting on?

Another weekend with changeable weather - hasn't the rain been absolutely  brutal!  On and off leaving outfit picking an absolute nightmare.  It's still warm which makes wearing anything that gives coverage in wet weather awfully sticky.  Hubby and I went out to look for a new sofa (I know we're still looking) and ended up sitting in the car until the rain stopped.  I wore this nice new shirt dress from Bonmarche - which sort of kept me dry with the addition of my faux leather jacket.  I picked mules which did make my feet get wet, so maybe I should have worn the second choice you will see below - my trusty trainers!

Do you have grand-kids?  I'm so lucky to be a nanny to five little darlings 💖 (and another due in November) and I enjoyed a sleepover with my grandson on Saturday night.  His sister was also on a sleep over so we decided he could come to ours on his own as he's usually shares with her - he felt very big and grown up and was a pleasure to have around.
Have you been watching Love Island?  I'm hooked on the program, although I hate watching it - it's something I love to hate, what do you think of it?  It's not aired on Saturday night, so we try to enjoy a good film and a takeaway.

So here's my weekend look.  I'm obsessed with this black and white check midi and it's one I'll certainly be wearing again and again come the next few months, hope you don't get bored of seeing it!

Items marked with * have been gifted to me, however these are 100% my own honest comments.

A shirt dress has to been one of the most versatile dresses you can get. Not only can you style it on it's own, but donning it with jeans or trousers it can double as a jacket.  It can also be layered over another dress to create a dramatic look too.  I've got big plans for this little beauty and you'll be the first to hear about them.
I don't know about you, but I love to wear linen dresses in the warm weather.  This sleeveless number* has ticked all my boxes for sure.
  • Easy-to-wear.
  • Cool & breathable fabric.
  • Adaptable style.
I'm impressed with the price too, an affordable £24 and it's available in sizes 10 - 20 and I'm happy to share it fits true to size.

I wanted to bring a bit of colour, and did this with my latest love - a double sided belt.  I found the DKNY black/red belt in my local T K Maxx, and was impressed with the £9.99 price tag.

Have you noticed my mules?  I found them in the H & M sale for only £15 .... I do love a bargain.  It's a style of shoe I've always had a passion for.  So this is my third pair I've bought this Summer.  They're all guilt free purchases as I know for definite they'll be worn to death throughout the next few months if not years!

One item I just couldn't do without in any season is my faux leather jacket.  This one is from Wallis, but being a popular garment you'll find one in many stores - especially in the Autumn months.  I'm liking this version from TK Maxx too!

Have you spotted the red belt has been swapped for the original matching tie belt!  Did you see what I did with it?  Yep I tied it round my silver bag for a 'stand-out' twist.

It was so easy to create a different vibe by adding my nice crisp linen jacket, white trainers and corresponding white handbag.  This is an outfit I'd happily wear daily for shopping and meeting friends, but I'm itching to wear it over those jeans and T shirt - do watch this space!

I'd love you to see my other gifted items from Bonmarche, you can read about my linen jacket here and this pretty crinkle skirt too.
Thanks for joining me today, I'll look forward to sharing some time with you on Thursday too.
Have a great week.
Bye for now. X

  1. Jacqui, I love how you styled it with the red belt and the black shoes. You look stunning in the whole outfit! I'm not a fan of that style of shoes, because I always find my feet keep coming out of them as I walk lol! It's a bummer though, because they do look great!

  3. I'm a big fan of black and white check so this dress is a winner as far as I'm concerned. Keeping cool in this mix of weather is such a challenge isn't it? I really like the second bit of styling as white trainers are my go-to for the summer. You look fab!
