Style not Age - My Favourite Trend for Autumn ...Rust!

Morning my friends.
Hope you're all good.
I'm actually away with my mum and sister today - so had to plan ahead for this one.
With it being the last Monday of the month the Style not Age ladies are in charge of the post.  It's been my choice this month and after a few harder challenges I thought I'd try and make this one a little easier. So my choice for today's endeavor is.....

My Favourite Trend for Autumn .... Rust!

Items marked with * have been gifted to me, however these are 100% my own honest comments.

Once a month Hilda, Anna, Emma and I take turns to style a theme our own way, you can see some of our previous topics here for September, August, July and June.

Colours of Autumn share many tones from the surrounding foliage, from stunning reds to mellow yellows & all shades of blended browns and rust inbetween .  All very striking against the crisp blue skies and luscious long green grass.  If you asked me what's my favourite season I would always answer Summer, but I'm rather indecisive as to my second choice.  I love Spring which is full of anticipation for the new year, Winter is exciting mainly due to a Christmas magic & skiing holidays.  But there's something about Autumn that I love.  It brings to mind roaring fires, harvest festival, scrumping apples, mushrooms springing up over-night and beautiful, really beautiful colours.
This year I want to concentrate more on filling my wardrobe with the striking shades of fall.  So when I saw this rust dress hanging in my local F & F I immediately wanted to bring it home and style it.

My midi dress is just the best shade I think. It has a row of buttons down the front which are faux, so much better that buttons that might gape or unbutton.  I like the belt which is the same slinky rib design, but I might switch for either black or brown on another occasion.  With a V neckline which leaves a nice space for a flattering bold necklace, like this big beaded gold one I choose and you've already seen on the blog. Long sleeves are helpful for the cold months & the whole dress feels soft on the skin and just lovely to wear.  Here's the exact dress in black.

I literally grabbed the grey wrap last minute as I was meeting Esther and was running late!  I wasn't really sure if it was going to work, but just went with it as I didn't have another layer.  I'm really pleased with the outcome, with the patch of tan it just seems to work don't you think.

Now let's spend some time with the boots - how lovely are these?  I'd never had a pair of tan boots, can you believe that!  These are from Lotus Shoes & the Miriam leather calf length boot* is true to size fitting like a glove.  Priced at an unbelievable £89.99  they've got an inside zip and two faux buckles which are interesting little details.  Now the heel is a really good height - 6cm which is also block too - result.  They're a sensible pair of boots for everyday running around but still embrace my fashionable side.

I'm actually obsessed with these boots and have worn them at every opportunity.  They fit the bill for so many outfits, I've worn them with dresses, skirts and jeans too.  Versatile to say the least.

Now it's my blogging friends' turn!

First up is Emma - Style Splash, who's doing what she loves - mixing & matching her bargains from thrift shops.  We've also 'twinned' with our love for rust this Autumn - go buy something rust my friends. ✔️

Anna - Anna's Island Style has chosen well too. Argyle knit has proved to be a winner for our Anna, and she's managed to put her mark on her outfit as only Anna can do  - with a bit of pattern blending.

Finally Hilda - Over the Hilda  is sharing her bright red trousers suit, one of her favourite tends of the season.  I've yet to jump on this band wagon - but recently styled a really old pinstripe suit, will that initiate me into the 'club'?

Many thanks to Esther Ruby for taking such fabulous photos, she really has excelled herself and has given me some wonderful images. Love to you Hun. X
Don't forget to pop back on Thursday for the #LINKUP, I know you're all #Chicandstylish so come share your stories with everyone.
Before I go I'd just like to leave you with one image just to show it's not all sweetness, light and plain sailing in the blogging world - ha ha ha!

Bye for now. X

  1. Jacqui, what a great dress! And I love the drama of the fur trimmed cape. How cool that the buttons on your dress are fake ones. That is a total score to prevent the gaping issue that so many of us have! I don’t think I have any rust colored pieces in my wardrobe. I will have to dig around though since I am on a shopping freeze. You look gorgeous, my friend.

  3. Rust really does come alive against your skin and hair colour Jacqui - I can so understand why you love it. The wrap is adorable too and is the perfect ploy with the simple lines of the dress. How clever that the buttons are fake, saving on that gaping! Another great challenge in the bag xx
