Dressing for Sicily - Chic & Stylish Linkup.

It’s been another crazy hot week, I almost don’t know what to do with myself! It’s not the same when you’re on holiday is it. When it’s hot and you’re abroad you can take a dip in the pool or sea and order another cocktail. When you’ve got chores or work to do it’s much harder isn’t it!

I’ve been home for a couple of weeks since celebrating my 40th wedding anniversary in Sicily, with the hen weekend in-between. Today’s post is all about what I wore. 

We’d decided it would be wonderful to spend our special day in Savoca a while back, so David put the wheels in motion booking flights, accommodation and car hire and before I knew it we’d arrived on the magical island of Sicily even though Mount Etna had other ideas. We did think our flight would be diverted of even cancelled but fortunately luck was on our side and the flights and subsequent holiday went ahead.

We’d booked an early flight on Friday morning and, as we’ve been before, we knew the route to take to collect the car and travel to Savoca. It’s only about an hour away and the roads were pretty easy to navigate. David, who’s a big fan of The Godfather (which was filmed in Savoca) had scoured Google Maps to find a particular bridge that was featured in the film. He kept on looking and was so determined to find the bridge and eventually did. It’s located near a little town called Mitogio.

Upon finding the destination - we took some photos before heading off to The Borgo San Rocco, our accommodation for the following four nights. Once we’d arrived we parked up and got onto the awaiting golf buggy. They’d had a landslide in the village on the road up to the hotel so we couldn’t drive it.  The parking was free and the little buggy was available in the morning and late afternoon to transport us between the hotel and town. It made the journey different but interesting as we got to see a different route which was just as spectacular!

I wore this navy maxi to travel in. It’s from a familiar company called M&Co* a store I used to shop in when our local was open. It’s a relaxed style and easy to wear fabric, I love the cutout detail around the hem and mid length. The crinkle material still makes the casual dress very fashionable and I’m excited to wear it again now I’m home. I teamed it with gold accessories with my new sliders from M&Co too along with the Elie Beaumont crossbody bag. 

Our evening meal was in the hotel as we didn’t want to walk into town - it’s very hilly so we saved our legs for other nights. Here’s a little peak of one dish. Washed down with exceptional Sicilian red wine. 

Saturday morning, after a late wake up, we just about made breakfast. We then headed out for a little drive to see what damage the storm had left on the coastline. The storm hit about 6 months ago and damaged the seafront all down the coastline. It looked horrific on TikTok and Instagram and I felt so sad for the locals who faced the damage. I must say the repairs have been going really well. Apart from a few areas that still needed repair on the whole it looked amazing. 

We found a cute little wet fish store where you could pick something for them to cook for you. We decided on calamari with a glass of beer and Prosecco. We followed this with an ice cream. Guess what flavour I chose!

Here’s what I wore that night for dinner in the hotel restaurant . I found quite a few lovely and unusual dresses on Shein, this was one of them. 

Sunday was our Ruby anniversary. We’d taken some cards with us and David and I exchanged presents. He bought me a beautiful gold bangle which had rubies across it and I gave him silver and Ruby cufflinks. He’s planning on wearing them at the wedding so I’ll show you them then. 

We spent the day around the pool with a bottle of champagne we’d bought to celebrate. It was lovely to just chill out by the pool enjoying the sunshine, and reminiscing about the previous forty years. Where did they go?

That night David had booked a meal in a local restaurant. We walked to it which was downhill, much easier than the walk back but we were so happy we didn’t even take any notice of that! ❤️ I wore another sun dress from Shein. It’s a pretty cream base which had coral flowery swirls over it. This I wore with flat mules which had diamantés over the top and I took my favourite coccinelle clutch bag which I bought on a previous trip to Taormina. 

Monday was another day out. We just went for a drive further up the mountain and found a tiny Sicilian village. The streets were so narrow, it’s not a drive for the faint hearted! We got another view of Savoca. This was taken from Casalvecchio Siculo. 

I took a selection of dresses so I’d got choice. I love to travel heavy when David and I go away so we always take a 20kg suitcase with us … each!

All too soon our beautiful weekend was over. 

Driving back to Catania we stopped off in Aci Castello - a charming seaside town famous for a medieval fortress built on black lava rock overlooking the Ionia Sea. 

Unfortunately the flight was delayed and we had to hang about the airport for over three hours and then had the near four our flight. We eventually arrived home at 4am! Thankfully we got compensated, so might be booking a cheeky weekend away with that! 😉
