Alice & Olivia - Find your perfect fit!

Hello and welcome to Mummabstylish.
Hope your week is going well.

Are you a fan of faux leather?  I have always liked wearing this sleek and sturdy fabric and have now got a couple of new skirts along with a pair of jeans and culottes in my collection.  I have another fabulous skirt arriving soon as I bought one on Vinted the other day ... a cheeky little bargain for moi!

In case you're not familiar with Vinted they're an online website where you can buy and sell new or pre-loved garments at bargain prices.  I've bought quite a few bits from them in the past, but admit to only buying 'new with tag' items.  Selling is another avenue where you can literally get rid of anything you no longer want or need.  I went through my wardrobes recently and instead of donating to charity, which I usually do, I decided to sell on there.  It's surprising what people want to buy, even old garments that aren't 100% pristine sell, it just depends what you want for them.  Vinted is very easy to use, with everything on the App easy to follow.  When something is bought the item is paid for along with the postage, you receive an email with a postage label or QR code to stick on your parcel.  All that's left to do is drop off at the selected collection point, as soon as the item is received and has been checked the money (less postage) is transferred to your account, it's as simple as that. (If you'd like to know more, do drop me a message or email my friends).
So as soon as the new skirt arrives, you'll be the first to see it, I promise!

My OOTD is the jeans I mentioned above and this striking top I've received from Salamander Shirts.
I bought my trousers in the Tu Clothing section of my local supermarket and have worn them loads of times since finding them.  They are a perfect fit and look good with lots of tops and jumpers (that I haven't already sold on Vinted) lol!

Items marked with * have been gifted to me, however these are 100% my own honest comments. This is also a sponsored post.

Let me show off this stunning top* to you.  It's made from 100% polyester and is machine washable and I can confirm washes up a dream!  The boat neckline is rather flattering as is the pretty ruched cuff detail - it's the perfect casual top to style with jeans, skirts and anything faux leather!
I was drawn to the colours first, it's got shades of pewter grey, pink and white and the swirly abstract pattern really stands out especially when it's paired with a plain trouser or skirt.  It's turning into one of my favourite pieces of the season AND it's also available in bronze swirl too!

Now I've shown you my outfit let me share something a bit different with you and would like to welcome a guest post featuring the new-to-me brand Alice + Olivia which was founded by Stacey Bendet.

How Do Alice + Olivia Sizes Run?

According to reviews from different shopping sites like Shopbop, certain clothing items like their dresses are typically expected to fit true to size. Other clothing items such as pants sold by Alice + Olivia have been noted to run larger than true size according to several reviews.

How to Size Alice + Olivia Dresses.

Because Alice + Olivia dresses have been reported to be true to size, you will be able to accurately use your true measurements when looking for the right size. Already own an Alice + Olivia dress but not sure of it’s size? Check out a couple steps as to how you can measure it on your own.

Chest Measurement.

To measure from the side seam to the side seam of the dress, lay the tape under the armhole. When it comes to fitting a bust or chest size garment, the tape should be placed close to the area under the garment's armhole.

This measure will ensure that the garment's size is accurately represented in the bust or chest area.

It is also important to measure from the front to the side seam of the garment to get an accurate size. Keep in mind that the tape should not be pulled too loosely or tightly. If you want to make sure that your dress fits properly, you should finally measure your torso length.

Waist Measurement.

The narrowest portion of the waist is located above the navel area. It's the area where the waist is the smallest. To make it easier to sew, lay the tape at the side and directly at the waist.

After identifying this point, lay the measuring tape on the side and across the waist of the garment. Make sure that it's parallel to the ground and that it's not pulled too loosely or tightly, this will help ensure the accurate measurement.

Hip Measurement.

To properly measure the hip, lay the tape about 7 to 9 inches below the waistline. Then, measure from the hip line to the side.

To measure your hip size correctly, wrap a tape measure around the circumference of the hip and take note of its measurements in centimeters or inches. Make sure that you measure across the full length of the hip.

Flare Measurement.

The width of your dress's bottom is referred to as flare, and it usually goes around the hem. Begin by laying flat and measuring from the side seam to the side seam of your garment. This will allow you to determine the flare's width. Make sure to keep the tape level while measuring to ensure that the number is accurate.

Strap-to-hem Measurement.

The measurement for the strap-to-hem is taken from the top portion of the shoulder to the hem of your skirt or dress. It ends at the bottom. This measurement will allow you to determine the length of your garment overall. To make an accurate measurement, drape a measuring tape over the shoulder and run it down to where you want it to end. Make sure that both the tape and fabric are clean and wrinkle-free before taking this measurement.

Waist-to-hem Measurement.

The measurement of the waist-to-hem of a dress is the length from its top waistband to its bottom hem. To measure this, lay a tape measure across the seam of your garment and measure straight down until you can see the end of your dress or skirt's hem. This will allow you to determine the length of the garment from one point to another.

How to Size Alice + Olivia Jeans.

As noted in several reviews of Alice + Olivia jeans, you should expect them to run a little larger to true size. Not sure what your exact measurements are for jeans? Find a pair you already own that fits well, and follow these next steps:

  • To measure the waist, lay the jeans flat on the hard surface and use your measuring tape. Make sure that the button is not resting below the back portion of the waist. Then, double the number for the waist measurement. This number should be taken into account depending on the rise, as it varies.
  • The measurement of the inseam is the distance from the center of the waist to the ankle hem. To determine the thigh's width, take a measurement below the belt's crotch seam and double it.
  • The last measurement that you need to make is the rise. To get the most accurate result, pull the waist tightly after taking this measurement. The normal range for mid-rise is between eight and nine inches, while high-rise is usually between nine and 10 inches.

What are Fashion Bloggers Wearing?

Check out a couple influential fashion bloggers who have done some reviews on clothing items from Alice + Olivia.

The Primpy Sheep Fashion Blog.

Familiar at all with The Primpy Sheep fashion blog? With over 10,000 followers on Instagram, Vanessa Ulrich is a successful fashion, style, and travel blogger.

As part of a fun summer photoshoot, Vanessa incorporated the saba top by Alice + Olivia into the pictures. Light, summer-themed details were incorporated, with a unique take on each person involved with the shoot. Vanessa noted that the most beautiful thing about this top was its intricate floral embroidery and the multiple beads and sequins it featured. The combination of these materials made it seem like real flowers were blooming all around it.

Some other accessories to go with the top can include a pair of white high waisted jeans, and a classic pair of wedges.

That Chic Fashion Blog.

Another blogger from Chicago did a review on the dresses, and mentioned some of the 50s and 70s style themes that were pulled off well.

"There seemed to be a lot of ’70s influences, too. This included handkerchief dresses; high-waisted looks with wide pant-legs etc. etc. with many inspired by her mother’s wardrobe from the era! However, the 50’s were also beautifully incorporated this season, as the collection had it’s share of ’50s-style tea dresses that gave the looks a retro-glamor feel, and intricate beaded gowns were included as well".

  4. That is a gorgeous top, Jacqui! Vinted sounds a lot like Poshmark here in the States. It’s such an excellent way to pickup great bargains. I have both purchased and sold on Poshmark. I’m glad to hear you are having good luck with Vinted.

  12. I love your top, the pattern is gorgeous! I've bought quite a few things on Vinted and have always been very pleased with my purchases, except for my most recent one. I bought a long cardigan and realised after I'd left positive feedback that it has a small hole. There's nothing they can do now so I'll have to try to fix it.

  19. This is such a great outfit on you! Those are wonderful pants and the top is so nice with them :) Sadly faux leather doesn't really survive long in the heat and humidity here :(
